Faculty Position in Thermal Transport for Energy – Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne
The Institute of Mechanical Engineering is soliciting applications for a faculty position at the level of tenure track Assistant Professor in Multi-Scale Thermal Transport for Energy Systems.
We seek applicants with research interests in the broad area of thermal transport and dynamical thermal storage across multiple scales (system, device and material levels) to advance the scientific and engineering challenges presented by the requirement to efficiently convert and transport large amounts of thermal energy and the need for integration of
significant amounts of renewable energy into our energy mix. The new faculty hire will address these
challenges from an experimental, theoretical, or computational standpoint (or a combination thereof).
We target strategic domains including, but not limited to: (i) Thermal transport in energy systems (e.g., industrial high-temperature processes, novel solutions for thermal energy supply in portable applications); (ii) Thermal transport in energy devices (e.g., passive energy transport and harvesting, energy recovery from high-intensity heat dissipation); and (iii) Fundamentals of spatio-temporal thermal transport (e.g., thermal storage, long-distance transport, thermo-mechanics, and thermo-chemistry). Besides an outstanding research record, the candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
As a faculty member of the School of Engineering, the successful candidate will be expected to initiate an independent and creative research program and participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Internationally competitive salaries, start-up resources, and benefits are offered.
